A construção da nova escola básica e secundária do concelho das Lajes do Pico deverá arrancar em 2014, estimando-se a sua conclusão no prazo de dois anos. Sabe-se ainda que processo de reconstrução do pavilhão desportivo da Vila das Lajes, infraestrutura particularmente danificada pelos últimos temporais que assolaram o arquipélago, prevendo-se para breve a sua conclusão.

Good news!

The construction of new primary and secondary school in the municipality of Lajes do Pico is expected to start in 2014, to be completed within two years. It is also known that the process of reconstruction of the sports hall of the village of Lajes, infrastructure damaged particularly by the recent storms that ravaged the archipelago, will be soon completed.

"O número de passageiros desembarcados nos Açores registou uma quebra de 4 por cento em 2012, face ao ano anterior.

Os dados do Serviço Regional de Estatística dos Açores (SREA) indicam que, entre janeiro e dezembro desembarcaram nos Açores 853.536 passageiros, menos 35.932 do que no ano anterior.

Em 2012 apenas a ilha do Pico registou um aumento do número de passageiros desembarcados, tendo passado de 32.278 em 2011 para 33.369, o que representa um aumento de 3,4 por cento."

Pico Still grows

It was released this month the statistics of overnight stays in the Azores. Accounting the first 6 months of the year the island of Pico was the only island that had positive growth in the number of overnight stays! And in 2nd place is the neighboring island, Faial, with negative growth of 5.7% over the same period of year 2011.

Camels lookout Whale Watching Tower

Fonte Hotel - Aldeia da Fonte located over the "Bay of Pigeons" in the south of Pico island, Azores, and next to Pico Mountain is just in the center of one of the best world sanctuaries of whales and dolphins. Pico is growing

Pico island keeps to affirm itself as a "trendy" and differentied destination as evidenced by the numbers of the Regional Government the referred this island as the only growth in overnight stays in the last three months!

Miosotis Award

Fonte Hotel - Aldeia da Fonte was awarded with Miosotis - Green Lodging which is a way of recognizing good environmental practices assigned by Azores Regional Government biannualy.
The ceremony was yesterday the 13th in the "Casa da Montanha" (Mountain House) having the reward handed by the Regional Secretary of the Environment.
Miosotis is the name of a small endemic flower of the Azores.

Remodelation finished.. at São João building

As a result of official approval of the remodeling of the hotel, Aldeia da Fonte has remodelated the São João building.
We should like to mention that all our buildings have names of the different hamlets of Lajes do Pico Municipality.
We modernized but keeped in touch with the classical/charming decor of the hotel. All the pictures we are going to use to decorate de rooms have been taken in location as well as people who live there. This way it will be possible to enjoy the outstanding location and gardens of the premises but, at the same time, be in touch with local people and different local sceneries.
We want to offer our guests a truely azorean experience wich will of course include our excellent fish and meat. And the emotions will carry on to our Whale Watching Tower, the NEW sea lounge, that we already shared the pictures, and our special swimming pool just above the Atlantic ocean.
