O Governo da República Popular da China pretenderá instalar nos Açores uma base militar  e um posto de abastecimento para a sua frota mercante.

Este dado surge numa altura em que os Estados Unidos da América decidem a redução da sua presença nas Lajes, Terceira. A evolução desta situação poderá trazer uma significativa redefinição geopolítica e geoestratégica, não só a nível local mas fundamentalmente a nível atlântico e global.

China and the geostrategic importance of the Azores

The Government of the People's Republic of China is considering to create a military base and a fuel supply point for comercial vessels in the Azores.

This comes at a time when the United States are deciding to reduce their presence in Lajes airbase, on Terceira island. The evolution of this situation could bring significant geopolitical and geostrategic redefinition, not only locally but fundamentally in the Atlantic region and at a global level.
